Consistent In Wearing Kebaya, Dr.(H.C) Martha Tilaar to Receive Kebaya Award

As the peak event of Kongres Berkebaya Nasional 2021, the organizer announcing the Anugerah Kebaya award to women who are considered giving a contribution to the preservation of kebaya in Indonesia. Seven women received the award, they are the Founder of Martha Tilaar Group Dr. (H.C) Martha Tilaar, kebaya designer Anne Avantie, kroncong singer Sundari Sukoco, former Minister of Health Nafsiah Mboy, singer Endah Laras, designer Ni Luh Djelantik, and womanpreneur Christine Dessynta.

These women are chosen because they fulfilled the criteria set by the organizers, such as their constant effort in culture preservation by wearing kebaya on any occasion and their willingness in promoting kebaya as a regular outfit to the young generation.

“Congratulations on Kongres Berkebaya Nasional event. I hope this could be a good step and contribution to our cultural preservation as the heritage of the nation. The colors of Indonesia's culture need to be taking care of and preserve so the world will see our identity as a large, noble, and cultured nation. As Indonesian women, we should be proud to inherit the culture of our Nusantara. With kebaya, let’s beautify Indonesia. Go #BeautifyingIndonesia!” said Martha in her speech that aired online.     

Kongres Berkebaya Nasional 2021 has five sessions of Webinar which present socialite, entrepreneur, artist, government officials, and the general public. Besides the kebaya awarding event, the main goals of the congress are to advise the government to establish the Kebaya National Day and so for the near future we could prepare the steps that can be the follow-up reference to make the kebaya one of the nation’s heritage, and officially admitted as the Indonesia wealth by the UNESCO.

Here are five conclusions of Kongres Berkebaya National 2021 recommendation in their commitment to preserving Indonesia kebaya:Kongres Berkebaya Indonesia (KBI) 2021 will continuously promote the usage of kebaya, not only as a National outfit but also as a daily-basis outfit depends on the function itself.
  2. KBI will continuously advise all Indonesian women to encourage the establishment of the National Kebaya Day.
  3. In 1.5 years, KBI will continue to develop and make a move to succeed kebaya as the intangible cultural heritage like batik, keris, and wayang that has been acknowledged earlier by UNESCO.
  4. KBI will help, encourage, and open business opportunities for kebaya SME and its derivative variant, so kebaya will not extinct.
  5. KBI will keep the commitment to evolve and be held annually so the event will have the attention of the people from around Indonesia, and to make it a concrete effort to preserve kebaya as the nation’s culture to the next generation.
